The 7 principle qualities of the perfect English learner

Everybody can learn a new language.
It doesn’t matter if you are super intelligent or not.
It also doesn’t matter if you are good at learning languages or not.
There is no mystery or magic trick while learning English.

But… There are some personal characteristics that can help you to be a perfect English learner.

You maybe already have some of these 7 qualities. If not, no problem. It’s never too late for you to change things and be better at learning English.

What Qualities Make A Perfect English Learner?

The 7 principle qualities of the perfect English learner

1. The Perfect English Learner Is Hard-working

To learn a language is not an easy task. You aren’t going to improve your English overnight.
If you want to reach a good level of English you just have to work. There is no English improvement without effort. To be hard-working instead of a lazy dude is always a must.

2. The Perfect English Learner Is Self-critical

When working your English you always have to be critical about what you do.
You have to evaluate if what you are doing is the best for your English improvement.
You also have to change or reorient your strategy whenever needed; it’s a step ahead towards your English success.

3. The Perfect English Learner Is Tenacious

To learn English is like a marathon. If you keep working for enough time without giving up or stopping for long periods, you are going to reach a good level of English sooner than you think. It’s impossible not to learn English if you work on a regular basis.

4. The Perfect English Learner Is Self-demanding

You always have to ask yourself for more if you want to succeed.
Don’t swim on a pool of false self-satisfaction that is going to bring you to nowhere.
Work as much as your daily duties allow you. Ask yourself for results.

5. The Perfect English Learner Knows What She/He Wants

You have to always be sure of what you really want and need. If you are always hesitating about what to do, then you are wasting your precious time.
You need to have clear goals:
-Why do you want to learn English?
-Why do you need the English language for?

Don’t depend on someone else (such as a teacher) to tell you what to do in order to improve your English,
Of course, you can have an English teacher, but ONLY as an advisor.
You have to be your ship’s captain. Don’t wait for your one hour weekly class to be told what to do next.
Take the initiative. Take action on your own in order to improve your English. Your teacher, if you have one, will be proud of your progress!!!

The 5 best ways to learn and improve your…

As you know there is a lot of different methods to learn English.
In my opinion the next 5 ways are the best ones if you really want to improve your English.
They are maybe not available for you right now for personal reasons (your family responsibilities, your current job, money…) but still keep them always in mind.

You never know…

The 5 best ways to learn and improve your English

1. Go To Live In An English Speaking Country

It’s known all over the world. If you want to learn English then the best way is to go to live in an English speaking country. It’s a total immersion. You are going to be in contact with the English language and culture 24 hours a day and seven days a week.
You are going to work your ListeningReadingSpeaking and Writing skills all over the day without even noticing it!

2. Find An English Native Boyfriend Or Girlfriend

The person with whom you interact the most is always your boyfriend or girlfriend.
If you have and English native one then you are going to be in contact with the English language every day and in a very natural way.
It’s also a first-hand contact with the English culture.

3. Look For A Job Where You Have To Use Your English

Here I’m talking about a job where you use the English language most of the time. Not a job where you have to write an email in English once a week.
You are going to speak, listen, read or write in English nearly 8 hours per day.
I can’t assure you that your English is going to improve really fast!

4. Find A Group Of English Native Friends In Your City

If you can’t go to live in an English speaking country why don’t meet English native people in your own city?
Sometimes people from abroad come to work in your city. They maybe need help, a new friend or just someone to guide them through the city.
You can improve your English by hanging out with them on a regular basis.
You can give them back a nice friendship, your help and show them your country’s culture too.

5. Look For An English Native Virtual Friend

When none of the previous ways are available to you, you can still find a English native virtual partner on the Internet.
It’s going to be a “virtual” immersion but stil,l if you meet on a regular basis, be pretty sure that your English level is going to improve a lot.
The most difficult part here is to keep the friendship for a long time and to meet on a very regular basis.

Learn and improve your English through your favorite songs

There is a lot of funny ways to learn and improve your English. One method that I like very much is to work with songs.

Working that way you are going to enjoy while improving your 4 basic skills:  Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. By the way you are also going to learn new vocabulary and sentences.

Why Is So Good To Work your English With Songs?

Learn And Improve Your English Through Your Favorite Songs

Working with songs is a very good idea because you work with a material (your favorite songs) that you like and enjoy. This fact is going to make the process of learning more pleasant for you.

You can work and improve all the four basic skills (Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing) at the same time through your favorite songs.

You can work with songs by different bands and artists and then you are going to work with different accents (UK accent, US accent…).

How I Work With Songs?

It’s important to underline that I only work with songs that I really like and enjoy. Don’t waist a single second of your precious time in a song that you don’t like. There are thousand and thousand of songs waiting for you out there.

Here are the 7 steps you can use while working with a song.

  1. You choose a song that you REALLY like.
  2. You listen to the song as many times as needed.
  3. You transcribe the lyrics of the song.
  4. You read ALOUD the lyrics of the song.
  5. You memorize the lyrics of the song.
  6. You recite ALOUD the lyrics of the song.
  7. You sing along with the song.

You can follow these 7 steps and then you are going to work the 4 basic skills (Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing) at the same time.

You can also work through any step you like avoiding the other ones.
For example if you only want to work your speaking skill then avoid the steps 2 and 3. You can look for the lyrics in the Internet and go ahead directly to the step 4.
